If you’re ready to make the most of a few extra days of fun, here are some simple ideas for what to do on a long weekend.
Visual Scavenger Hunt
If you wish you could connect with friends, and at the same time keep the kids engaged and focused, try a visual scavenger hunt.
Here’s how it works. Connect with a friend over video to have a nice talk together. Before you do, set up several items in the background. They could be items like stuffed animals, items that are blue, or items with a particular word in them like books and movies about pirates. Have your friend do the same.
Next, when you call your friend, have your kids try to find all the items and write them down or just count them on paper. It will give you and your friend time to connect while your kids have something exciting to do. If you want to know what to do on a long weekend, simply extend the activity to each day, following a theme.
For instance, make each day a different color or different word to find. You can tell the kids how many items there are and put a mix of easy to find and harder to find items to spur them on, but keep them focused.
Make a Puzzle Adventure
Get a few puzzles – one for each day, and have puzzle time. Choose puzzles that come from a particular place or are about a particular story.
Then, before you put together the puzzle, spend just a few minutes discovering facts about that place or story. It’s even better if it’s a place or story that already means a lot to you.
After the puzzle is put together, have a fun quiz about the place or story to see if the kids can guess the answers. It’s a great way for them to learn more about the world they live in and the one that lives in their imagination.
You can even give prizes at the end, just for fun. If you’re looking for what to do on a long weekend, this will make the weekend something everyone is excited about every day.
Even when you can’t get out you can still have a great long weekend and have a blast together with a scavenger hunt or adventure. You simply have to be creative and make the most of it.
