AweVenture Popup

If you want to do your own thing, we’ve got you covered. We’ve been doing this for years. Our founder created AweVenture after making several detailed and involved video scavenger hunts of his own. What took him many hours of work to complete he distilled down to a few seconds in the app.

And now, I will distill it down to three simple steps in a few minutes for you.

Plan It

The first thing you need to do is plan your event. Here are the things you want to know:

  • Why: Why are you doing this? What’s the end goal? Is it a prize, a location, a discovery?
  • Where: Where do you want to end up at each turn?
  • Who: Who will be invited? Who will be on video?
  • How: How will you invite everyone? How will everyone get from place to place?
  • What: What is the theme? What are your clues?

Depending on how involved you want the scavenger hunt to be, expect to spend anywhere from 1 hour if you make it basic and record simple videos yourself, to several days of work if you involve scripts, several people on camera, sets and costumes, complex clues, and hidden rewards.

Once you know these things you can move on to the next step.

Create It

Create your scavenger hunt. Once you know where you are going and what your clues are, you can create your videos.

Your videos should follow your theme as should your clues. You can decide what level of video you want to create:

  • Simple: Easy videos where people give clues.
  • Scripted: Videos where people are in character giving clues.
  • Full-Production: A full production with sets and costumes: a lot of fun, but a lot of work.

If you have things to hide at each location, you will need to make sure you take care of that. You can also simply have the location itself provide the answer to each clue.

Finally, you need to find ways to tie the locations to starting the next video. The AweVenture app does this automatically through geotagging, but you can also try other things such as QR Barcodes that you can easily create with QR Barcode generators.

After you’ve done all this, invite everyone and get ready to have fun!

Have Fun!

When you think about how to create a video scavenger hunt, the last thing you need to do is fun! Actually have the scavenger hunt!

You’ve done the planning, come up with the clues and locations, created the videos, and sent out the invitations. Now it’s time to run the event.

Have fun with it! If things go a little lopsided, roll with it. After all, it’s all about fun and sometimes a small mishap can actually lead to a fun distraction.

Now that you know how to create a video scavenger hunt, you can do it over and over and have lots of fun with it. If you want to get the most out of your scavenger hunts, be sure to sign up to be an adventurer. It’s free, includes lots of great perks, and you can learn about all kinds of ways to make your next adventure the best one yet.
